Blood Drug Testing

The Vermont Forensic Laboratory (VFL) Toxicology Section is pleased to announce that as of February 11, 2019 we will analyze blood samples for impairing drugs in DUI-D cases. The VFL will utilize an instrument called a Randox Evidence Investigator using an immunoassay method to screen samples for:

Meth / Amphetamines

Barbiturates

Benzodiazepines

Buprenorphine

Cannabinoids

Cocaine Metabolite

Dextromethorphan

Fentanyl

Meprobamate

Methadone

Opiates

Opioids

Phencyclidine

TCA

Tramadol

Zolpidem

The VFL will also confirm samples that screen positive for Cannabinoids using High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). If confirmation is required  for analytes other than THC, samples will be sent to NMS Labs. In the meantime, the VFL will be validating confirmation procedures for other common analytes (e.g. opioids, cocaine, etc.). Currently all blood drug testing performed at the VFL is outside the laboratory's scope of accreditation.
